I think this is an accurate summary of where the USG stands currently (as of V4). So a couple things we're adding soon for the USG (based on eatremely-popular demand ;-)
1. Firewall groups and rules. ETA early July for Beta.
2. Built-in radius server w/ users configurable properties in the UniFi GUI (username/password, Radius VLAN, and VPN remote access allowed (yes/no). ETA late July for Beta.
I got myself the EdgeRouter-X and I have a TOUGHSwitch arriving later today (through customs). Glad I made the 'right choice' and having had a brief play with the ER-X I've been able to configure 2-separate subnets along with NAT & WAN masquerading.
Reboot loop - Indeed this is an awful failure mode for invalid manual config.gateway.json data. It's only relevant where you manually define the configuration, but with so little of EdgeOS's total functionality exposed in the controller UI today, that's needed more often than it should be. Fixing this to fail gracefully is on the list. My highest priority overall is nearly eliminating the situations where you need to use manual configuration. Other stability issues - largely addressed in releases since the time of this video. There is one spontaneous reboot problem I'm aware of with large-scale sites, which should be fixed in a USG release version within days.
I was a long time ER Lite user but recently had to replace it since it suddenly stopped working. I ended up getting a USG and in my opinion/environment it is an upgrade over the ER. I also have Unifi AP's in my home and being able to view and manage both Networks and all devices from one single interface is a massive benefit. Also note that a lot of the limitations in this video that he's mentioned have been fixed in subsequent release. I don't feel like I've downgraded one bit in going with the USG after living with the ER Lite for 3+ years.
