How can I get better at debugging macros using gcc, clion and gdb?

How can I get better at debugging macros using gcc, clion and gdb? Primarily I'd like to know how to easily step into the macros when I'm running in gdb or debug build with clion. I see that clion has a macro expansion plugin, but it looks like it's clang targeted.
