China's Sichuan: Qingxi Ancient City Historical Pilgrimage
<div class="rich_media_content js_underline_content autoTypeSetting24psection" id="js_content" style="visibility: hidden; opacity: 0; "><p><span leaf="">We drove from Dayuan Hui Township in Qingchuan County, Guangyuan, to Qingxi Ancient Town for *Iftar* (breaking the fast). Although there were only two tables with ten people at Qingxi Mosque, the atmosphere was truly wonderful, just like being at home. There were respected elders (*Anian*) cooking fresh dishes right there in the mosque, and other village elders also brought food from their homes, creating a very warm and welcoming feeling. What we ate was part of the Qingxi Hui people's 'Nine Big Bowls,' which is a traditional and standard Hui banquet. It included dishes like clear braised meat, crispy fried meat, steamed minced meat with rice powder, braised chicken, and stir-fried cabbage with seaweed, offering a balanced mix of meat and vegetables, all prepared in a home-style manner. Bspan leaf="">Qingxi Ancient Town is a crucial pass along the Yinping Ancient Road, historically known as the 'Gateway to Northern Sichuan and the Throat of Western Shu.' It has always been a place where merchants gathered and strategists fought for control. Since the Ming Dynasty, Hui people from Shaanxi and Gansu have settled in Qingxi along the Yinping Ancient Road, and the Qingxi Mosque was officially built in 1546 (the 25th year of Emperor Jiajing's reign in the Ming Dynasty). Truly, the culinary choices are abundant. In Sichuan, there are several ancient towns and cities rich in Hui Muslim culinary traditions, such as Dujiangyan, Songpan, and Langzhong, all of which are truly worth visiting.
