Is Cape Town South Africa SAFE? for Backpacking?

A real visit would be hanging with locals, asking questions watch the local dance, run around with local people, drink the local drinks, take pics with the local people not some chick from Switzerland. I am not bashing but that’s what I would do to enjoy my trip while still being a tourist and try to stay safe as much as possible.
