Ningxia Trip Day 1 (Part 3) Najahu Mosque

Najahu Village, Xingqing District, Yinchuan City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, is home to one of the most representative mosques in Ningxia combining traditional Chinese and Islamic styles, as well as a major religious and cultural heritage site with centuries of history. Legend has it that its origins date back to the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty (late 14th century),

initially built by the Hui Muslim ancestors who migrated to Ningxia. It underwent multiple expansions and renovations during the Qing Dynasty, gradually growing in scale. It has also been repaired in modern times, yet its overall layout and traditional architectural character remain remarkably well-preserved.

Today is Saturday, and the mosque's Asr prayer (Asr) starts at 5:45 PM. None of us on this family trip have ever visited a mosque before, so we gladly hopped in the car and headed over.

The Najahu Great Mosque is a traditional medieval-style masjid.

The gate tower features a tunnel-style passageway.

Facing east with its back to the west, the courtyard is rectangular and consists of a gate tower, main prayer hall, side rooms, and ablution facilities, forming a classic ancient Chinese courtyard layout. It is gorgeous.

Many Muslim believers have already arrived inside the complex.

Inside the prayer hall.

Since we aren't Muslim, we couldn't go inside the hall to watch the Asr prayer rituals, so we had to head back a bit disappointed.
