[Internet Repost]

Wandering through the weathered arcade streets of Duanzhou's old district in Zhaoqing, Guangdong, we explored the Chengdong Mosque—a hidden, city-level cultural heritage site nestled deep within the residential blocks—to experience the peaceful vibe where local Lingnan street life blends seamlessly with a century-old mosque.

Walking down the alleys of Duanzhou's old town, you are surrounded by peeling vintage arcade buildings and a maze of overhead wires, soaking in the down-to-earth, everyday vibe of old Zhaoqing. Right here hides a low-key, under-the-radar historic spot: the Chengdong Mosque.

It doesn't have some grand, flashy entrance; it quietly blends right into the neighborhood homes, making it super easy to walk right past if you aren't paying close attention.

This mosque has a long history dating all the way back to the Tang and Song dynasties, and after getting rebuilt generation after generation through the Ming and Qing dynasties, it is officially recognized as a Zhaoqing city-level cultural heritage site. It also serves as a religious hub for local Hui Muslims.

Right in the middle of bustling old streets and ordinary alleys, you get daily city life on one side and a quiet, sacred mosque on the other. It just sits there quietly, bearing witness to the cross-cultural years of Zhaoqing's rich history!
