I've had Google Wifi for about 2 months with absolutely no issues. Love the additional coverage for my home and the speeds are greatly increased. I also love the 'family wifi' controls that are built into the app where I can pause wifi on any device like my son's phone and xbox
I was actually using the Google WiFi system for the longest time and in the beginning I couldn't complain and the speeds were pretty consistent throughout the house. I live in a 2 story town home so mesh system was definitely needed to get full coverage. But just now this past August my Google WiFi just stopped giving me my speeds that I was paying for so i figured I do a system reset because maybe it just needed to be cleared up and after that reset I could never get the Google WiFi to work again, so I took it as a sign that it was time for a new system and I this time around I wanted a system that had a built in modem so that I would have double NAT issues and so that my Tivo could communicate with my mesh network because it never did before and boy was that the best decision. I opted for the Netgear Orbi with the built in modem, astronomical price but totally worth every penny. I am so happy with the netgear orbi and I was skeptical at first because I hadn't owned a netgear router in years and before i never really cared for them but I have no complaints so far with the Orbi. I get my full speed in just about every single spot in the house, even right outside my house so my phone connects I even walk in. So if you are looking for a new router definitely listen to Majestechs advice everything he said in the video is very accurate!! great video sorry for the long comment just wanted to share my story!
I have recently installed google Wi-Fi mesh network (6 units including the main one connected to the fiber optics connection) at first I had some issues connecting to my ISP with my internet credentials but post that the connection is absolutely great. Keeping in my I live in a big villa which have heavy concrete walls. The trick I used is I connect all mesh routers by cables since in the house there are wired connection in every single room to the main switch. Of course not everyone would have this accessibility but if you do live in big house and the routers are setup properly the connection would be great. In fact every where I go the latency to my isp doesn’t exceed 4ms and download speed is 100mb (Capped at my isp connection speed for my package). I just wanted to share my opinion on these since for the past 3 weeks I had no connection issues with the routers.
Interesting that my experience has been the opposite. I had the Netgear system for a year. After dealing with constant speed problems, compatibility issues with other devices, and bunk firmware updates I got the Google Wifi system. It's been great. My house is 2 story, 3500 sq feet not including an unfinished basement which isn't part of my experience obviously. So our usable space is similar. I have absolutely 0 speed issues and so far it's been flawless with keeping my devices connected. I have 35 different devices connected to my wireless network so there's quite a bit of pull on the system at all times.
I’m using google WiFi coverage is good speeds are good. I’m having an issue with it randomly dropping devices. The device look like it’s connected to Wi-Fi but it won’t work and I will have to forget the network and then re-log into it.
I use the Orbi with 2 satellites in about a 2700 sq ft home. (Overkill I know)... I have 600 mb down and 150 up fioptics service. I get 520 down and 165 up on WiFi in the same room as the main router... never had any issues with the network. I also use it in AP mode and use a nighthawk r8000 as my gateway. (Wireless disabled) I saw a slight increase in speed and performance when configuring it this way
I switched to Google WiFi in July and I'll loving it. I'm paying for a 20/2 fibre connection but close to the main router I'm averaging 90/19. Downstairs which is separated by a thick concrete slab I've another unit and while the speeds aren't as great I'm still getting more that what I pay for at 37/23.
The Orbi is pretty awesome. Hell of a performer. Got a hell of a deal on it at YAYA mall last December. I’ve been super happy with it. Plus people who come over love the design of it.
I really wanted to love Google WiFi but I can't right now. I live in a 1k SQ ft single floor home and my pucks aren't more than 25ft away from each other through just regular walls and in one case a single door...granted it's a solid wood door. Anyways I get 100-150 on my Google WiFi which sounds ok until you realize I have a Gbps internet connection. I will be trying new solutions moving forward.
